About the Role

We have been engaged by a leading Insurtech company to find a Technical Team Lead to oversee a squad of 6 working on their flagship product. Backed by a well-established global parent company, they operate with the agility of a scale-up while enjoying the stability of a larger organisation. Their technology powers underwriting and protection marketplaces, helping insurers and advisors streamline processes and deliver better outcomes for customers.

They are undergoing a multi-year transformation, modernising their architecture and shifting towards a product-focused, SaaS model.

The role of Tech Lead is a combination of hands-on technical expertise (30%) and people leadership (70%). You will report into the Director of Engineering, being part of the technical leadership team for the business vertical.

About the Candidate

Requirements:

  • Experience leading an engineering team/squad (minimum of 3 direct reports)
  • Experience mentoring engineers while fostering a culture of ownership
  • Providing technical leadership and guiding system design decisions
  • Working with product and your team's product manager to ensure the most important things hit the roadmap.
  • Driving a DevOps culture, ensuring smooth CI/CD processes and improving deployment efficiency.
  • We're looking for a strong communicator who can explain technical concepts to different audiences and stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive system design decisions, balancing scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Technologies

The tech stack consists of Java 21, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm and various AWS services.

Company Culture and Benefits

With a base salary of £100,000-120,000, the company offers extensive benefits and a 10% bonus. This is a hybrid role based in Central London, requiring 2 days a week onsite.
