Job Description
We are seeking a Data Engineer with a strong background in data engineering. This hybrid role involves managing system requirements, design, development, integration, quality assurance, implementation, and maintenance of corporate applications.
- Work with product owners, business stakeholders, and internal teams to collect and understand business requirements and desired business outcomes.
- Assist in designing analytic data assets, implementing modelled attributes, and contribute to collaborative brainstorming sessions.
- Build and maintain a robust data engineering process to develop and implement self-service data tools for Visa’s product management teams and data scientists.
- Identify opportunities to create, automate, and scale repeatable analyses or develop self-service tools for business users.
- Execute data engineering projects, either individually or as part of a larger project team, ranging from small to large scale.
- Set the benchmark for data engineering best practices within the team and assist leads and architects in solution design.
- Exhibit a strong passion for optimizing existing solutions and making incremental improvements.
Qualifications
Basic Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree, OR 3+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualification
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in building data engineering pipelines.
- Proficiency in Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Hive, and MapReduce.
- Mastery in Pyspark or Scala, along with expertise in programming languages like Java or Python, including a solid understanding of OOP concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
- Experience with ETL tools like Informatica, SSIS, Pentaho, or Azure Data Factory.
- Knowledge of data-driven real-time and batch systems design and development.
- Proficiency in RDBMS technologies (like SQL Server, Oracle).
- Reporting skills with tools such as PowerBI/Tableau/QlikView are a plus.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture and services, including compute, storage, databases, networking, AI, and ML.
- A passion for delivering high-quality, defect-free code within specified timelines and project expectations.
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum team environment, along with hands-on knowledge in Jira.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD practices and Git concepts is required.
