Responsibilities

This role requires building innovative and custom features, improving existing features, and ensuring operational excellence through various projects such as:

  • Re-launching the doctor directory with new features and a fresh look.
  • Creating custom Drupal modules while leveraging a common code base that streamlines work across multiple sites.
  • Utilizing a flexible VirtualBox for development without impacting production servers while working with our efficient 4-layer caching system on a LEMP stack.
  • Crafting and testing site features for desktop and mobile to enhance traffic and advertising revenue.
  • Developing an author portal and media asset management utility, alongside an automated advertising system.
  • Enhancing our new forum system in Vanilla Forums.

Core Skills

To succeed in this position, you should possess the following core skills:

  • PHP
  • MySQL (MariaDB)
  • HTML/CSS (HTML 5 and CSS 3)
  • JavaScript/jQuery
  • Familiarity with a content management system, ideally Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress (we currently use Drupal 7)

Optional Skills

While not required, familiarity with any of the following optional skills would be beneficial:

  • Linux (CentOS 6)
  • VirtualBox for development environments
  • Website optimization techniques, including front and backend caching: Varnish, Memcache, APC
  • Git or similar code revision systems
  • Mobile web development (RESS)
  • SaltStack
