About the Role

Meta is seeking a forward-thinking, experienced Data Center Systems and Software Engineer to join the Data Center Site Operations team. Our data centers, and the tens of thousands of servers installed in them, are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. The candidate we seek is a forward-thinking IT professional with experience utilizing multiple varied software tools to identify automation solutions intended to address complex operational issues. This role is cross-functional and considers the technical needs of frontline users to identify and automate diagnostic tooling enabling quality and efficient delivery of production servers.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and root cause systemic issues in the fleet and drive resolution, ensuring maximum server fleet uptime and utilization rates.
  • Create and review code, develop documentation, and debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most complex systems in the world.
  • Own and develop diagnostic tooling requirements to manage the fleet.
  • Drive the escalation process for SiteOps to pinpoint, root cause, and resolve complex tooling and hardware issues affecting the fleet.
  • Execute operational validation and verification activities for new product integration.
  • Collaborate consistently with cross-functional tooling teams to assist in determining root causes and provide input into their development processes, keeping an operational perspective of how unresolved issues interfere with the fleet.
  • Build cross-functional relationships and influence policies and procedures to enhance global data center operations.
  • Mentor team members to explore better ways to resolve issues and suggest updates to tools and processes.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% is required.

About the Candidate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or comparable experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in systems infrastructure operations or related field.
  • Proficiency in coding in higher-level languages (e.g., Python, PHP, C++, or Java).
  • Experience with configuration and maintenance of applications like web servers, load balancers, relational databases, storage systems, and messaging systems.
  • Ability to learn new software, frameworks, and APIs.
