About the Role

Veza is transforming school transportation by leveraging modern technology to optimize routes, streamline operations, and enhance communication between schools, drivers, and parents. As a Senior Developer with a backend focus, you’ll play a foundational role in shaping Veza’s server-side architecture, driving new feature development, and ensuring the reliability of our systems. You will see your work have a direct, tangible impact on how schools schedule and manage transportation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Own the Backend: Architect, maintain, and evolve our Node.js/TypeScript/GraphQL/Keystone.js services.
  • Database & APIs: Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, build/refine APIs using Prisma, and ensure efficient data flow for multiple front ends.
  • Security & Reliability: Implement best practices to keep our systems secure and highly available.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Collaborate with existing senior team members and mentor future junior hires through code reviews and technical guidance.
  • Routing & Mapping: Work with tools like Mapbox to power real-time route planning and data visualization.
  • Remote Collaboration: Join daily stand-ups (brief check-ins) and otherwise work autonomously, ideally from Alberta, Canada.
