About the Role

The Unum Technology Centre in Carlow serves as a strategic software development and IT services centre supporting Unum, a leading provider of income protection in the US. Software Engineers at Unum are responsible for building and/or configuring software solutions within their business portfolio. They ensure that software is delivered to high quality standards by collaborating with agile team members and leveraging unit testing and continuous integration. Responsibilities include participating in daily standups, developing Windows applications, creating and maintaining technical documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily standups and Agile ceremonies across onshore and offshore teams
  • Develop, test, and maintain Windows applications and REST APIs, using C#/.NET
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers and other teams to troubleshoot, enhance, and optimize applications
  • Contribute to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and team syncs
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture, design, and troubleshooting guides
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge with the team.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years of hands-on experience in .NET development with a strong focus on API development and maintenance. Familiarity with cloud services such as Azure or AWS is also necessary. The candidate should be comfortable working in an Agile environment, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication abilities. A willingness to learn and contribute across the stack is essential, as is the ability to thrive in a team-focused culture.
